Sunday Workout With Dan

I was feeling very stiff again this morning so Dan and I decided to do an afternoon workout. I chose one with running... I really miss it and had fun with the workout the other day that had running in it. Dan chose a CrossFit Football (http://www.crossfitfootball.com/index.php?ts=1247857200) workout that he's been wanting to do for a while now called Volkswagon - he completed it in 7:43 (really good time!) My workout was from CrossFit Mom:

5 Rounds

200 m. Run
10 Push Ups
10 Good Mornings (45#)
10 Pull Ups

My time was 19:20 which I was really happy with considering the breaks that I take to catch my breath. The run, push ups and good mornings felt GREAT! And as always the stretching was much needed, especially through my shoulders and upper back. The pull ups I was able to do 5-4 strict for the first 3 rounds and the rest jumping with one foot. The last 2 rounds I did all jumping with one foot. Was quite a bit hotter outside today than it was Friday during the workout... but I just love working out outside! Made sure to stay in the shade, drink water and take breaks so the heat wasn't too much of an issue. Only really felt myself getting hot right after the run. Overall great workout... Dan was a great coach during the whole thing and cheered me on the whole time :) I love my husband so much and am a very lucky girl!

p.s. I have a confession to make - I ate something really weird the other day. A grape with mustard on top! I love mustard and love eating it my itself but mustard on top os a grape is an all time low for me hehe just thought I would share. Dan is thoroughly grossed out by me now... as if all of the other lovely pregnancy symptoms aren't enough hehe poor guy!

Hope you all are having a good weekend, talk to you soon!

Sweet Relief... Finally A Workout!!

Wow... I can not explain how badly I needed that workout! The second I started stretching I could literally feel my blood start flowing to my arms and legs. I think my belly has been hording all of the blood flow for itself and my limbs have been surviving on the bare minimum. Stretching has never felt so good :) I have no idea why I waited till Friday to do a workout... I should have known I would feel so much better once I got outside and started the workout. It is a great day here for doing a workout outside too, not too humid, cloudy and in the upper 80's i believe. The fresh air was great too... I think I'm going to ask Dan if we can go for a hike or something this weekend, I just love the outdoors so much! The workout was very relaxing for me, despite the crazy dog that lives across the street that barked at me the whole time. It was good practice for me on focusing my thoughts on positive things instead of focusing on the negative (the dog). Worked pretty well :) I did have to run inside in the middle of the workout though to go to the bathroom... all the bouncing during the run made me have to go. Here's the workout:

4 Rounds

400 m. run
25 Squats

My time was 15:26

On another note... my right eye keeps twitching. It has been going pretty much constantly for a week or two now. I am guessing it's just because of the increased blood flow but it's pretty crazy how often it does it. Oh well, just one of those things I guess.

Dan got home from the field a couple of hours ago, yayyyy!! He's already asleep though hehe not that I blame him. He only got about 4 hours of sleep in the last 2 days. Hopefully he'll wake up later so we can hang out for a little bit. He also gave me some news today... as I already knew he'll be going to WLC (Warrior Leader Course) next Tuesday for two weeks but he told me today he will also be going to Ranger School sometime soon after he gets home from WLC. Ranger School is 60 some days long. I'm a little sad but still excited for him to go :) By the time he gets home it will be near the end of December and I will be 30 weeks along... time sure does go by fast when you look at it like that hehe. So I'm sad for the little things he'll miss while he's gone but at least he'll still have 10 or so weeks to be home before the baby arrives.

That's all the news for now... everyone is asleep here except me... Rico is snoring and Dan is talking in his sleep hehe I love my family, they make me laugh :) Talk to you all soon!

Pictures - 12 weeks and 6 days

End of Week 12 - Week 13 Here We Come!!

Doesn't seem much bigger to me in these pictures but I just measured it and I am at 36"... yesterday I was at 35 3/4 " so it is definitely growing :) Also one thing I forgot to mention that I think is interesting - the left side of my belly sticks out further than the right side. From our appointments and everything i am pretty sure that's the side that the baby is on. Kind of cool :) Haven't felt any movement yet but hopefully soon! So far no workout today... just have not been feeling very energetic. Dan is out in the field for a couple of days and this has left me feeling a little blah. That's ok though, he'll be back for our three day weekend tomorrow!

Hope you guys are having a great day, talk to you soon!

Week 12 Update

Also I forgot to update you on my weight... I am at 144 according to the doctor's office which sounds much more accurate to me than 140. So I'm thinking that our home scale is off but now it is reading 144 as well so we will see. For now we'll say I've gained 4 lbs which is right on track with what I should be gaining, so yay for that!

Also, I went to Babies R Us today for the first time and browsed around... can't wait to find out the gender because they had some adorable outfits! Luckily I made it out of there without buying anything :)

As for my workouts, so far this week I have not felt like working out much aside from yoga. Feeling tight all around though and think some sort of workout would be good for me so will most likely try and get one in tomorrow.

Also in regards to workouts I will be posting a couple videos on here soon with workout ideas and demonstrations for any of you that are interested in simple crossfit type workouts that you can do at home - thanks Cait for the idea, hope they help :)

Hope you guys are having a great evening and are enjoying the videos so far!

Workouts and Very Exciting Updates :)

Happy Monday Everyone :)

Just wanted to update you that I have taken a break from workouts since Thursday but will be doing yoga this morning and possibly a workout later today. Will update later if I do.

Very exciting news before I go ...

Dan bought us a portable dishwasher yesterday so I won't have to spend time washing dishes anymore :) Huge relief for now and will be even better when the baby gets here! Got a great deal on it too which is always exciting, not to mention the family that we bought it from gave us a couple packs of all natural dish detergent to go with it that smells great! This is very exciting because I have been trying to switch over to all natural cleaning products since we found out I was pregnant. Overall better for us and better for the baby :)

Also... we are starting to rip up all of the carpet in the house since we found out recently that we have hardwood floors underneath :) Very excited about this change!

That's all for today... I will be doing the next video update today or tomorrow :) Have a great day everyone and I will talk to you all soon!

Workout - Wednesday, August 19

Workout - With John and Ann

Deadlifts:

65#/10, 85#/7, 105#/6, 125#/5, 135#/5, 135#/5

Met-Con:

10 Push Ups
30 Thrusters (15# DBs)
Run 200 m.
20 Push Ups
20 Thrusters (15 # DBs)
Run 200 m.
30 Push Ups
10 Thrusters (15 # DBs)
Run 200 m.

8:37

Awesome workout! Felt great during the whole thing. For the deadlifts 135# was the perfect weight to stay at... felt like I was working but not heavy enough to make me strain at all. This weight is a little under 50% of my max deadlift which is just about right for me to be lifting right now I think. Was able to keep a good pace on the met con without getting too out of breath due to using lighter weight than normal.

Hope you all are having a great day so far! We have our second prenatal appoinment later today and get to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time :) Very excited... will let you know how it goes!

Week 11 Video Update!

Workouts Saturday - Tuesday

Hey everyone... here are my workouts for the last couple of days. Better late then never, right :)

Saturday - Yoga with Dan

Dan and I woke up early and did my yoga DVD together... it was a lot of fun and entertaining to say the least being that it's a prenatal yoga DVD and Dan is definitely not pregnant! In the beginning they tell you to put one hand on your stomach where the baby is and one hand on your heart and to connect with the baby... I love this part but it was too funny watching Dan try and figure out what to do with himself when she said to do this :) The yoga is so good for both of us because of our inflexibility and good for me because it teaches me to slow down and relax! Love it!

Sunday - Workout with Dan at home

6 x Deadlift (50#)
6 x Hanging Power Cleans (50 #)
6 x Thrusters (50#)
15 x Push Ups

5 Rounds

Felt good during this workout. Heart rate was about 140 BPM when I stopped which is pretty good. Afterward I felt a little too tired. I'm thinking that keeping the bar in my hands through the first three movements during each round made me go through that part of the workout a little too quickly. Next time we do a workout like this I plan on setting the weight down in between each movement... even if I might not want to since I feel good at the time.

Monday - Workout with Ann

750 M. Row
20 x MB Cleans
20 x Situps
20 x KBS (20#)
450 M. Row
20 x Wall Ball (12#)
20 x Situps
20 x KBS (20#)
150 M. Row
10 x Turkish Get Ups (12#)
20 x Bench Dips
20 x Push Ups

LOVED this workout! I think the variety kept it interesting for me... especially since I'm not able to go all out like I used to. Will definitely go back to this type of workout format again!

Tuesday - Workout with John and Ann

Bench Press 65#/6, 85#/6, 95#/6, 95#/6, 95#/6
Box Jumps x 5
Run 200 m.

Haven't done bench press in a while but felt great on these. 95 # felt like the perfect amount of weight for this movment. Was not straining very much at all to get the weight up and was able to do 6 reps comfortably. Felt good to do box jumps again... haven't done those in a while either. Got a stomach cramp while running hehe haven't had that happen in a longgg time!

** As for exercises where I have to lie on my back, I am planning on cutting those out in a couple weeks once I get close to the 2nd trimester. Apparently once the uterus gets to a certain size it can press down and cut off the circulation to the baby if you lay on your back. Definitely don't want to do that, so I'll be playing it safe!

Hope everyone's having a good Tuesday :)

First Ultrasound Picture!!

There's our little peanut... so adorable and quite a squirmy little guy/girl :) Seeing it for the first time was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life... will never forget it! Will share the rest of the story on my video update later today :)

Workout For Today

Hello everyone!

Very excited to tell you about our first ultrasound but I am going to save it for my video update that I am going to do in the next couple of days :) But the baby is very healthy at 3.91 cm and a heart rate of 160 bpm! Due date is now estimated to be March 5th, 2009 so that puts me at 10 weeks and 6 days today (A couple days further back then I had estimated). So good news all around and everything is going well!

As for my workout today - I woke up early before the ultrasound to do some of my yoga DVD that I bought and I loved it! Yoga is pretty tough but I am getting better at relaxing and focusing on my breathing... the toughest part for me is not focusing on my form so much (all CrossFit's fault :) ). Yesterday afternoon I also did the group workout with Dan at CrossFit Cape Fear which was:

5 RFT

5 Single Arm Shoulder Press (20# DB) - Each Arm
5 Renegade Rows (20 # DBs) - Each Arm
5 Turkish Sit Ups (15 # DB) - Each Arm

Time - 6 minutes and something (can't remember off the top of my head)

Cash Out - 25 Push Ups

Felt great on the workout... going lighter because of the pregnancy lets be be able to do the workout a lot quicker than I normally would which is nice but very different for me. The renegade rows I'm not a huge fan of with being pregnant... I'm thinking next time these come up I am going to modify them with a plank hold with shoulder taps instead just to play it on the safe side :) Overall a good workout!

Hope you all are having a great day so far and I can't wait to share our ultrasound experience with you all!

Workout, Dinner and 11 Week Pictures

Hello Everyone!

No workout for today. Extra tired and not feeling good for the most part so I decided to take today off - which is good anyways since Wednesday is normally my day off during the week. I did buy a prenatal yoga DVD today though and I am very excited to try it out :) I'm thinking the yoga will be great to add in addition to my CrossFit workouts to help with my flexibility and to improve my relaxation skills!

I also made homemade broccoli and cheese soup tonight... it turned out soooo good! Dan had never had broccoli and cheese soup before so I am glad I did not disappoint him with a nasty first experience. Actually very easy to make too... here's the recipe if any of you are interested:

Broccoli and Cheese Soup (Compliments of Eating Well When You Are Expecting)

1 Tablespoon of butter or olive oil
1/2 Medium sized onion, chopped
1 Clove garlic, minced
2 Cups of broccoli florets
1 Medium size Yukon Gold potato
2 1/2 Cups low sodium chicken broth or veggie broth
3/4 Cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 Cup buttermilk, or more to taste
Sat and black pepper

1.) Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

2.) Add the broccoli, potato, and chicken broth, raise the heat to high, and let come to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the saucepan, and let simmer until the broccoli and potato are softened, about 7 minutes.

3.) Let the broccoli mixture cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender or food processor and, working in batches if necessary, puree it until satiny smooth.

4.) Return the soup to the saucepan, add 1/4 cup (I added more like 1 full cup) of the cheese and the buttermilk. Cook the soup over low heat until the cheese melts (do not let the soup come to a boil), about 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour the soup into serving bowls and top each with lots of cheese.

Last thing for today... I have a couple of pictures of me and my belly that we took tonight since it's the beginning of the 11th week, so here are those! I can't believe how fast my belly is growing... it didn't seem to be doing anything for so long and now everyday it's getting bigger and bigger. Very excited to be seeing changes!

Hope everyone is having a good night... ultrasound for us in the morning :) Time for bed, goodnight!

CrossFitting During Pregnancy - Daily Updates

Hi everyone! I decided today that I am going to start doing daily posts on my workouts to help me hold myself accountable during the pregnancy. I still love doing my workouts but it's very easy to let the tiredness, nausea and all that other fun stuff get in the way and keep me from working out... I do not enjoy this. So I am hoping that by posting them on here it will help me be more consistent with them! I will be doing a combination of CrossFit Mom workouts, workouts I make up on my own or workouts with John at the gym.

For those of you that have not heard of CrossFit before you should definitely check it out... this is the type of training we do at Designs in Fitness/CrossFit Cape Fear where I am a personal trainer. We use all functional movements - running, jumping, throwing, pushing and pulling (things you need to be able to do in everyday life), at high intensity (as fast as possible with good form) and with lots of different variations. It is an amazing program because anyone can do it... even if you're pregnant :) If you want more info feel free to ask me any questions you might have or you can check out their main site at www.crossfit.com.

As for my workouts... yesterday evening I did one after resting for most of the weekend (excpet for swimming in the ocean which ended up being more of a workout than I anticipated!).

8/10/09

21 - 15 - 9
Shoulder Press (50# BB)
Dips (on the edge of the couch)
Push Ups

I felt great during the workout... triceps were burning that's for sure! Afterwards I felt pretty gross. Stomach a little upset and just plain tired. I'm thinking I need to try and do most of my workouts in the morning from now on. I always seem to feel better when I do them in the morning. Still very glad that I got a workout in though despite the nasty feelings :)

8/11/09

4 Rounds

15 Pull Ups
15 Lunges
15 Knee To Elbows

** Going to add a 400 m. Run in between each round

Will be doing this one in a little bit... will let you know how it goes :) It's getting pretty hot outside so I will most likely only do the run outside and the rest indoors. Gotta love that NC humidity :) It is a beautiful day though!

... Just finished this one. Ended up doing the whole thing outside just cause I haven't spent much time outside lately and I miss it! Was pretty hot but I made sure to take lots of breaks and drink water in between rounds. Glad I added the run, felt really good and averaged around 1:32 for each 400 m. The first part is down hill though so it's not actually as fast at seems. That's all for today!

Beach Trip

Day Trip to Carolina Beach :)

Dan planned a day trip for us to go to the beach on Sunday and we had so much fun! We left the house around 4:30 am and got got there around 7:00. Missed the sunrise by about a half hour but we didn't mind... the beach was nice and quiet since we got there so early. We sat on the beach for a while when we first got there. We didn't see any dolphins but we did see a baby shark washed up on the beach. It was sad but interesting to see. After that we went to breakfast at our favorite place, Kate's Pancake House in Carolina Beach. I loveeee their Banana Walnut Pancakes :) So good! Then we headed back to the beach to relax and go swimming. We had so much fun swimming and trying to beat the waves. After a while we had swallowed so much salt water from being hit by the waves that we decided we better get out. After that we headed down to Wilmington to this place that has my favorite Chicken Salad Sandwich - it has pineapple in it and is served on a croissant :) Yum! It's right on the beach and we got a seat upstairs with a really good view. Then it was time to head home. Such a great day! We were amazed after thinking about it that next time we will most likely get a chance to go to the beach our baby will be here... that will be a trip to remember :)

First Video Update - Week 10
